South Africa stresses need to end suffering of Saharawi people

Istanbul, Nov 12, 2013 (SPS) - South Africa stresses the need to find a final solution to the suffering of the Saharawi people and to complete the decolonization of Western Sahara, said chairwoman of the South African delegation present at the Socialist International Women’s meeting, convened from 8 to 9 November 2013 in Istanbul, Turkey.


Speaking about the efforts being made by the organization to achieve peace, South African representative emphasized the need to make many efforts to achieve security, especially in the African continent which is witnessing numerous conflicts and security risks.


Secretary General of the Saharawi Women Union Ms. Fatma Al-Mehdi, for her part, called for intervention to maintain peace plan in the Western Sahara, recalling to the suffering of the divided Saharawi people and the Moroccan gross violations of human rights they are subjected to.


She also called on the participants to denounce such violations, urging to find the necessary formulas to protect human rights of the Saharawi people and their right to self-determination.


A Saharawi delegation, led by Ms. Fatma Al-Mehdi, was present at this meeting. (SPS)
