Rome, Nov 13, 2013 (SPS) - The 38th edition of the European Conference of Coordination and Support to the Saharawi people (EUCOCO) will be held Friday and Saturday in Rome attended by hundreds of participants from Europe, Latin America, United States, Africa, Asia and the Arab world, organizers said Wednesday.

The EUCOCO, which has now become an international event in which participants will discuss the planning of concrete actions to support the Saharawi people in their struggle for independence, will be preceded on Thursday afternoon in Rome by a conference of friends of the Saharawi people.

Five workshops will be held during the EUCOCO 2013 to discuss ways to improve the political, economic, social and cultural conditions of the Sahrawi people.

The workshops will deal with: "The political, information, natural resources", "human rights", the "humanitarian aid", the "Youth, Sports and Culture," and finally the "Work and Unions."

"The Sahrawis have a dream: to see their land free, the children of the refugee camps dream of seeing the sea, their sea (...),"the organizers wrote in the introduction of the program of the conference, adding that they even "share this dream."

"This is why every year we meet in a different European city to meet the Sahrawis, listen to their needs and engage effectively," the same source added.

According to them, "the serious economic crisis and the Italian political instability delayed the final announcement of the conference and reduced its proceedings to only two days."

The EUCOCO will be held in 2013 "Thanks to the generosity of several Italian associations that have guaranteed minimum conditions" for the success of this event to "expose the human rights violations in the occupied territories of Western Sahara."
