Rome, Nov 14, 2013 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, arrived Wednesday in Rome, capital of Italy, as part of a working visit lasts for few days, during which will attend the 38th European Conference of Coordination and Support to the Saharawi People (EUCOCO), to be held from 15 to 16 November.

Upon his arrival, the President of Republic attended a press conference hosted yesterday evening by the Italian Parliamentary Group of Friendship with the Saharawi people at the Italian Senate’s headquarters.

This press conference was devoted to the oficial announcement of the International Parliamentary Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi people, to be convened Friday in Rome in the presence of parliamentarians from all continents.

During the conference, attended by Italian and international press, President Mohamed Abdelaziz spoke about the latest developments of the national question, highlighting in particular on the violations of human rights perpetrated by Moroccan occupying state against innocent Saharawis.

The President called for the immediate release of all the Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in Moroccan jails, dismantling the wall of shame, opening the occupied Saharawi territories for independent international observers and stop the plundering of Western Sahara natural resources.

“The European Union should refrain from signing any agreement with Morocco that includes the territories or territorial waters of Western Sahara, because it will, unfortunately, make Europe part of the problem, rather than being an active actor in the Moroccan-Saharawi conflict, which in turn encourages the Kingdom of Morocco to persist its policy of expansion, violation of international law and human rights, as well as putting the stability of the region at risk,” said the President of the Republic.

Secretary General of the Polisario Front, on other hands, held talks with the Italian Democratic Party’s leaders, including the head of foreign relations Mr. Filipic Giacomo, the Party’s deputy representative in the Italian Senate’s external relations committee Ms. Marietta Teddy, and national secretary Ms. Cecilia Kamasa.

Saharawi President took the occasion to express the Italian Democratic Party for its principled positions of support to the firm right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and Independence.

In addition to the President of the Republic, this press conference also attended by a very important Saharawi delegation including the Minister Delegate for Europe Ms. Mohamed Sidati, Head of Diplomatic Mission to Italy Mr. Amih Omar, Advisor to the Presidency Mr. Abdati Breika, in addition to the Fatimatu Hafdalla and Mr. Mohamed Zarga, from Saharawi diplomatic mission in Rome, and the human rights activist Al-Galia Djeimi.
