President of Republic calls on Europe, international community to impose economic sanctions on Morocco

Submitted on

Rome (Italy), November 14, 2013 (SPS) - President of the Republic Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mohamed Abdelaziz called on Europe and the international community to impose economic sanctions against the Moroccan government so to bring it to comply with the international legality.

Speaking to the members of the Italian Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Polisario Secretary General added that "reports leave no doubt about the legitimacy of the Saharawi cause and Morocco violations of international law and human rights."

The Saharawi president compared "practices of the Moroccan government in Western Sahara with those of the apartheid regime in South Africa in the 70s and 80s.”

He described the position of the African Union which approved Western Sahara membership as "exemplary."

In this regard, he praised the decisions of the African Conference held in Abuja on 30 October under the theme "independence of Western Sahara, Africa’s decolonization."

Furthermore, Mohamed Abdelaziz pointed out that the initiative of the Swedish Parliament for the recognition of Western Sahara's government was a "courageous stand" against injustice, like the positions of Finland, Denmark, Holland and the United Kingdom which have rejected the fisheries agreement between the EU and Morocco as contrary to UN decisions.
