President of Republic attends international parliamentary conference of solidarity with Saharawi people in Italy

Rome (Italy ), November 15, 2013 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, attended Thursday in Rome  an international parliamentary conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi people at the headquarters of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

 

The Sahrawi President briefed the audience on the latest developments related to the issue of Western Sahara, referring to Morocco’s violations of international legitimacy and human rights and looting of Sahrawi natural resources, stressing that the signing of any agreement between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco, including occupied Saharwi territories, is ‘illegal and unethical’ and encourages Moroccan policies of expansion and occupation that threaten the security and stability in the entire region.

 

The conference was attended by parliamentarians from all over the world who reitrated in their interventions the urgent need to accelerate the decolonization of Western Sahara by enabling the Saharawi people to its right to self - determination and independence, through a free , fair and impartial referendum.

 

In a final statement, copies of it sent to the Italian government, President of the European Commission, Chairperson of the African Union Commission and  UN Secretary- General, the international parliamentary conference of solidarity with the Saharawi people , stressed the urgent need to find  a just solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, guaranteeing the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and  demanded the release of all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons and to enable the UN mission in Western Sahara ‘MINURSO’  to protect,  monitor  and report on human rights.

 

It is noteworthy that the President of the Republic has started a visit to Italy, which will be concluded by attending the 38th Conference  of the International Coordination of Solidarity with the Saharawi People, which launches Friday in Rome. (SPS)
