Algiers, January 19, 2014 (SPS) - Former Algerian Prime Minister Ali Benflis expressed Sunday in Algiers his commitment to "support the organization of a referendum of self-determination under the auspices of the United Nations in Western Sahara".
During his announcement to run for presidential elections in April 2014, Mr. Benflis also affirmed that "Algeria thanks to its unique geo-political location, is invited to be a key player when it comes to the themes of peace , security and cooperation in the Mediterranean", recalling in this regard that the Algerian state" will not assume any responsibility regarding the stalemate that stands in the way of the Maghreb Union."
