Moscow, Feb 13, 2014 (SPS) - The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ramtan Lamamra has underlined that his country “adhered to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, in accordance with UN doctrine through negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, namely the Kingdom of Morocco and Polisario Front.”

In an interview with “Russia Today” channel, broadcasted Wednesday on the sidelines of his working visit to Russia, Mr. Lamamra said: “this indeed what is being undertaken by the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, so to apt then for the Saharawi people’s will through a free and fair referendum.”

Head of Algeria’s diplomacy pointed out that his country “is not a party to the conflict and does not dictate to any party how to behave in the referendum.”

Referring to the need to allow the Saharawi people to decide their future, Mr. Lamamra stated that “wisest and the most appropriate way to resolve this type of conflicts is to resort to the will of the people concerned.” (SPS)
