Sahara Marathon 2014: two young Algerian runners crowned

Smara (refugee camps), Feb 26, 2014 (SPS) - The 14th edition of Sahara Marathon, which took place on Monday in the Saharawi refugee camps, was marked by the distinction of two young Algerians.


The runners are Merouche Rachid and Lubna Ouchnane for a distance of 5 kilometers approximately.


More than 450 people, including 300 foreigners, took part in the marathon organized within the festivities commemorating the 38th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) under the theme of “running for the human rights in Western Sahara.”


The marathon saw the participation of athletes from Algeria, South Africa, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Colombia, Ecuador, United States, Spain, France , Great Britain, Ireland , Italy, Lithuania, Malaysia , Norway, Netherlands , Poland , Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland.
