Moroccan army fired live bullets on herds of Saharawi camels

Submitted on

Chahid El Hafed (refugee camps), March 12, 2014 (SPS) - Moroccan army forces has fired lived bullets on herds of Saharawi camels, as a blatant breach to the ceasefire agreed upon by the Polisario Front and Morocco in 1991, said AFAPREDESA.

According to the Association of Families of Saharawi Prisoners and Disappeared (AFAPREDESA), this is part of a giant sweep campaign aimed at eliminating Saharawi livestock.

Moroccan army has unwarrantedly in recent days shot herds of camels belonging to Saharawi citizens, in the area between Geltat Zemour and Um Dreiga, said the same source.

Such behaviour has been persuaded by Moroccan forces since its invasion of Western Sahara on 31st October 1975, which aims to deter the Saharawi people from demanding their legitimate rights. (SPS)
