Adala UK calls on Morocco to stop repression against Saharawis

Submitted on

El Aaiun (occupied territories), March 20, 2014 (SPS) - The British ONG Adala UK has called on Moroccan authorities to halt their repression against the peaceful Saharawi demonstrations which demand the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.

"Adala UK believes that the time has come for the Moroccan authorities to cease their repression of Saharawi demonstrations which demand the right of self-determination in the occupied territories of Western Sahara," declares the ONG, in a statement published on its website.

Adala UK underlined that the Saharawi people have the right to freely express their views and to demonstrate peaceably without running the risk of being violently attacked.

In the aim to silence the Saharawi people, Moroccan authorities have for many years shamelessly suppressed the Saharawi people’s freedom of expression by prohibiting public meetings and demonstrations.

They, in this respect, often use excessive force against the Saharawi demonstrators, without any respect for the requirements of international law. (SPS)
