Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Oct 8, 2014 (SPS) - Prime Minister Abdelkader Taleb Omar received Tuesday evening at his office in Chahid Al Hafed, Saharawi refugee camps, a delegation of the Norwegian Labour Party Youth.

During the meeting, PM said that the Nordic countries must play a more vital role in pushing for a settlement to the Western Sahara issue, given that they are states free from any pressure by the Moroccan regime, like that exerted on France and Spain.

He called on Norway Labour Youth to do more so that their country recognizes the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), adding that such move “will mount political and right pressure on Morocco to respect human rights in Western Sahara.”

Praising the free referendum on self-determination the United Kingdom conducted in Scotland, Prime Minister highlighted that Morocco still refuses to follow suite in Western Sahara.

He also focused on the life inside the camps and the Saharawi state’s institutions and bodies.

“The visit was an opportunity for us to exchange views and see at first hand the reality of the Saharawi people,” Tor-Martin Torbergsen, member of the delegation, told reporters following their meeting with the Saharawi Prime Minister.

Last April, the National Council of Norway Green Party approved a motion calling on government to recognize the SADR as a sovereign state. (SPS)
