Copenhagen, Oct 30, 2014 (SPS) - POLISARIO Representative in Denmark, Mr. Abba Malainin, on Wednesday held talks with Mr. Giorgio Caracciolo, Programme Co-ordinator for Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and various officials in the Danish Institute Against Torture (DIGNITY).

The meeting was an occasion for the Saharawi representative to make a detailed expose of the critical situation of human rights in occupied Western Sahara and unveil the methods of repression and torture committed by Morocco against the Saharawi right activists as it was published recently in a report by Amnesty International – Denmark Branch.

Abba Malainin highlighted the issue of 600 Saharawis who have disappeared since the beginning of the occupation and the actual situation of more than 70 political prisoners in different prisons in Morocco.

The Saharawi representative emphasized on the urgent need that MINURSO gets a mandate from the UN SC to monitor and report about the situation of human rights in occupied Western Sahara.

DIGNITY - Danish Institute Against Torture’s work is basically founded on the respect for human rights and the dignity and integrity of each individual.

Therefore, it is DIGNITY's proclaimed objective to help alleviate the human suffering resulting from torture - both for the individual, the family members and the community. (SPS)
