Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), January 30, 2015 (SPS) - Algeria’s proposition to adopt a declaration condemning the holding of the Crans Montana forum in the occupied city of Dakhla (Western Sahara) was supported by several countries at the African Union Executive Council (AUEC), the AU body said Thursday in Addis Ababa.

During the presentation of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights’ report, at the AU’s executive Council meeting, and at the initiative of Algeria, it was suggested the adoption of a declaration condemning the holding of the Crans Montana Forum (March 2015) in the occupied city of Dakhla, said the source.

This proposition triggered an “intense debate” at the Council, added the source which expects this suggestion, “strongly supported” by several AU member countries, to be adopted leading to the boycott of the forum. (SPS)
