Johannesburg, March 17, 2015 (SPS) - The Deputy South African Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Chairperson of International Relations at the African National Congress (ANC), Mr. Obed Bapela, on Monday reiterated his party’s firm position of support to the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence.
In a meeting with the Saharawi Ambassador in South Africa Mr. Salha Al-Abd, Bapela underlined that such position stems from ANC’s outstanding history of struggle to attain freedom and independence.
Consistent with African Union resolutions and international legitimacy, the official added that it derives from a common history and solid bonds that inked the African National Congress (ANC) and the Polisario Front.
Mr. Bapela announced that his party (ANC) did send no delegation to participate in Crans Montana Forum, held in the occupied city of Dajla from 12 to 14 March, rejecting, in the same regard, the attempts to involve the party’s name in such events.
Sahrawi ambassador, for his part, praised the very excellent relations happily exist between the African National Congress and the Frente Polisario.
ANC announced, in an official statement on Sunday, they had no contact or cooperation with Crans Montana Forum, in response to some reports promoted by Moroccan media outlets. (SPS)
