Mass rally in Paris against Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara

Submitted on

Paris, April 5, 2015 (SPS) - The Platform for Solidarity with the Saharawi People in France on Thursday organized a mass demonstration outside Morocco’s embassy calling for an end the occupation of Western Sahara, and asking France to stop blocking the implementation of UN resolutions on Western Sahara.

The rally started from Trocadéro Square in Paris towards the Moroccan embassy.

The demonstrators expressed unequivocal rejection of the continued occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, urging French government to stop supporting Moroccan regime in ignoring UN resolution on the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.

Reminding France of its historic, humanitarian and moral responsibility towards the Saharawi people, the demonstrators requested it to play a more active role in championing and respecting human rights in the world.

They also called upon the international community, notably the Security Council of the United Nations, to extend MINURSO mandate to include human rights monitoring, put an end to the suffering of Saharawi people and free all the Saharawi political prisoners, currently languishing in Moroccan jails.
