Submitted on

Smara (refugee camps), April 6, 2015 (SPS) - The 7th congress of Saharawi women, concluded its work Sunday night, warned of the continuation of the state of impasse in the peace process in Western Sahara, deploring the international community’s failure to put into action UN resolutions calling for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.

In a communiqué issued at the end of their congress, Saharawi women asked the international community to organize a referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people and to include a human rights component within MINURSO powers.

They denounced Morocco’s persistence in ignoring UN resolutions and the international political efforts calling for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.

The communiqué highlighted that Moroccan occupying state continues to disregard the political, social, economic and human rights of the Saharawi people.

It, moreover, praised the leading role of Saharawi women, notably those in the occupied territories, in the liberation war and institutional building of the state.
The 7th congress of Saharawi women held from 3 to 5 April 2015 under the theme: “Gdeim Izik will last forever”, it should be recalled. (SPS)
