Algeria, Mexico for self-determination of Sahrawi people

Algiers, April 24, 2015 (SPS) -Algeria and Mexico reaffirmed their support for a "just" and "lasting" solution to the Sahrawi issue which will provide for the self-determination of the Saharawi people, said a joint statement released Wednesday after Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations José Antonio Meade Kuribreña's working visit to Algeria.

 

"As for Western Sahara issue, the two ministers (Ramtane Lamamra and Meade Kuribrena), reaffirmed their support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his Personal Envoy Christopher Ross to achieve a just and lasting political settlement that will provide for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara in accordance with the relevant Security Council and United Nations General Assembly resolutions," the joint statement stated.

 

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the two ministers reaffirmed "the urgency of achieving a just and lasting solution based on UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative."

 

Accompanied by a large delegation, the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations visited Algeria at the invitation of Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra. (SPS)
