Submitted on

Copenhagen (Denmark) 22 May, 2015 (SPS) - Danish Member of Parliament Mr. Christian juhl, the Red- Green Alliance Party, has condemned the use of torture in prisons by Morocco, following the release of the latest reports of Amnesty international and the Norwegian Aid Organisation (SAIH) on torture and human rights violations committed by the Moroccan authorities in Morocco and the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

“It is quite unacceptable that one of the EU's closest allies, Morocco, uses torture in its prisons. EU countries should denounce, and demand from Morocco to stop torture, as prerequisite for the close trade,” said the Danish MP in press statement issued Friday under the theme “Systematic torture in Moroccan prisons”.

Regarding the mandate of the MINURSO (the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara), he emphasized that it should include the monitoring of human rights and natural resources.

Amnesty international said in its report that in the past 4 years 173 cases of torture have been committed by Morocco. For its part SAIH has documented more than 250 human rights abuses in occupied Western Sahara in the last year, it should be recalled. (SPS)
