Decolonization of Western Sahara, focus of international conference in Abuja

Abuja, June 2, 2015 (SPS) - The decolonization of Western Sahara will be the focus of an international conference taking place from 2-4 June in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, to which more than 600 participants are expected to debate several themes related to the Moroccan colonization of Western Sahara.


Organized by the Academic Staff Union of Universities of Nigeria, this “important conference” will gather academics, civil society actors, NGOs and committees of solidarity with the Sahrawi people from Africa, Europe and the Americas.


The Saharawi delegation will be represented in this event, by political and elected officials, various NGOs, national youth and women’s organizations as well as academics.


Saharawi activists of human rights will also attend this meeting “to testify to the multiple, massive and repeated violations of human rights perpetrated by the Moroccan regime which occupies and colonizes Western Sahara.”


Algeria will be represented, at this event, by a delegation made up of members of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS), national organizations and NGOs as well as delegates of the university teaching body. (SPS)
