Ban Ki Moon convinced of resumption of negotiations between Sahrawis and Moroccans (UN official)

 Smara (Refugee Camps), June 13, 2015 (SPS) - The Chief of Staff of the United Nations Secretary General, Susana Malcorra, said Saturday in the Wilaya of Smara, refugee camps, that her visit explains the "firm conviction" of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, in the resumption of the negotiating process between the two parties in conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco.

 

 "My visit to the Saharawi refugee camps reflects the strong will and conviction of the UN Secretary General of the need to continue the negotiations between the Sahrawi and Moroccan sides to reach a solution to this issue," said Ms. Malcorra , during a visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps.

 

 Ms. Malcorra indicated, during a speech to the population of the Wilaya of Smara, who gave her a warm welcome, that her visit to the camps "shows the true interest granted by Ban Ki Moon to the question of Western Sahara", announcing that "the UN Secretary General plans to visit the region before the end of this year and he will meet with Saharawi officials and civil society."

 

 "I carry, on the occasion of this visit, a special message from Ban Ki Moon to the Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz," she pronounced.

 

On this occasion, the UN official had met with the Sahrawi negotiating delegation at the UN, before they visited the headquarters of the Saharawi Red Crescent (CRS) where they witnessed the conditions of storage and distribution of humanitarian aid to the Saharawi refugees.

 

Finally, Ms. Malcorra was received by the President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz. (SPS)
