UN must end state of "inertia" characterizing peace plan, says Polisario Front

Submitted on

Shaheed el Hafed, 17 August 2015 (SPS) - The Sahrawi liberation movement, the Polisario Front, called on the UN to end the state of "inertia" that characterizes the UN peace process in Western Sahara.

In a statement at the close of the regular session of its National Secretariat (from 12 to 13 August), the Polisario Front called on the United Nations to "end the state of inertia which characterizes the current situation, relaunch the peace process and set a date for the organization of the self-determination referendum for the Saharawi people".

It also reiterated the availability of the Saharawi side to cooperate with the UN in its efforts to resolve the Western Sahara conflict.

This cooperation must be consistent with "the peace plan developed by the UN and the African Union (AU) in 1991".

It must also be part of the "MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) in terms of independence, freedom of movement and contact with the population of the occupied territories of Western Sahara." (SPS)
