The Saharawi Coordinator with MINURSO on working visit to Denmark

Copenhagen (Denmark) Sept 30, 2015 (SPS) – A Polisario Front delegation, led by the Saharawi Coordinator with MINURSO, Mr. M'hamed Khadad, accompanied by the Polisario Front Representative in Copenhagen, Mr. Abba Malainin, met with officials from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign affairs Committee of the Parliament, various Organisations and media as part of a two day working visit to Denmark.

Mr. M’hamed Khadad briefed all his interlocutors about the latest developments related to the issue of Western Sahara; the obstacles that face the UN peace process due to Morocco’s intransigence policy, the ongoing systematic violations of human rights committed by Moroccan occupation in Western Sahara, the illegal plundering of natural resources of the occupied territory and the POLISARIO Front joining the Geneva Convention.

The Saharawi official emphasised that Denmark and European Union should contribute more to the ending of Morocco’s human rights violations in Western Sahara and give more support to the UN peace process that stipulates the respect of the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination through a free and democratic referendum.

Mr. Khadad also stressed that a peaceful solution of the Western Sahara issue, in conformity with the international legality, will contribute to peace, stability and development in the North Africa region.

In a conference organised by the Danish solidarity organisation Afrika Kontakt about Western Sahara, Mr. Khadad and the Former MINURSO chief, the retired Major-General from Denmark Mr. Kurt Mosgaard, both gave presentations about the historical and the legal background of the conflict, the role of MINURSO, the status and prospects of the UN settlement plan, the illegality of the plunder of the territory’s natural resources and the abysmal human rights situation in Western Sahara.

Mr. Kurt Mosgaard stressed the urgent need for MINURSO to get a mandate to monitor and report about the human rights situation in Western Sahara and that the Saharawi people should be allowed to freely decide their future through the UN supervised referendum. (SPS)
