Bir- Lehu (liberated territories), 6 Nov 2015 (SPS) - President of Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, called on the United Nations to prevent the visit of the King of Morocco to the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

"We expect you to take all necessary measures, including immediate notification to the members of the UN Security Council, to intervene and prevent this visit, which is a serious escalation, a violation of the international law and fuels tension in the region," said the Sahrawi president in a letter to UN Chief Ban Ki-moon.

President Abdelaziz urged the "UN to assume its responsibilities in a territory whose decolonization process has not been achieved yet."

He also called for a "firm" action to halt the provocative acts, which undermine the credibility of the UN.

The Sahrawi government urged the UN and the international community to "intervene" and take a clear position on the provocative visit to the capital of El Aaiun, as it violates the international law and threatens peace in the region.

A peaceful demonstration was staged in the occupied town of Smara on Tuesday to protest against the forthcoming visit of the King of Morocco.

Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, has been illegally occupied by Morocco for over 40 years. (SPS)
