Dakhla (Refugee Camps), December 23, 2015 (SPS) - Mohamed Abdelaziz was officially re-elected Polisario Front's secretary general, by overwhelming majority at front's 14th congress, whose works are carrying on Wednesday for the election of the members of the national secretariat, in the Saharawi refugee camps in Dakhla.
Candidates for the secretary general position, according to Polisario Front general statutes amended Saturday, must meet a number of requirements, including a minimum age of 40 years old and military experience.
The secretary general is elected by universal suffrage, by the congress delegates.
A Polisario Front's founding member, Mohamed Abdelaziz, who has been the secretary general of the Polisario Front since 1976, following the death of El-Ouali Moustapha Sayed, a former Polisario leading member, was re-elected in 2011 for the eleventh term.
Mohamed Abdelaziz is also President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), a position for which he was first elected in October 1982. (SPS)
