AU Peace and Security Council calls for a rapid solution to the conflict in Western Sahara

Addis Ababa February 03, 2016 (SPS) - The Peace and Security Council of the African Union on Tuesday called for rapid and fair solution that provides the right of self-determination to Saharawi people to, in accordance with the principles and the United Nations Charter and international law.

 


In his report on peace and security in Africa, the Council for Peace and Security of the AU urged the international community to assume its full responsibility in the conflict that has lasted more than four decades, reiterating his call to determine a date for the referendum of self-determination of the Saharawi people.
 

The Council also requested the UN to protect human rights in the occupied territories and to end the illegal exploitation of Saharawi natural resources by Morocco.
 

Finally, the council called on Member States, organizations of the civil society and institutions to not participate in the Crans Montana forum which its second consecutive time expected to be in the occupied city of Dajla. (SPS)
