Western Sahara Solidarity Platform in France asks to cancel Crans Montana celebration in Dakhla

Submitted on

Paris, February 17, 2016 (SPS) - The Platform for Solidarity with Western Sahara in France called the Board of Crans Montana to "cancel the next edition of the forum scheduled to be held in March in the city of Dakhla, located in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, on which Morocco does not hold any sovereignty in accordance with international law ".

In a letter to Mr. Jean Paul Carteron, Chairman of the Forum, the Platform underlines that "the celebration of this event in the Western Sahara is a serious violation of international law, since no country in the world that recognizes Moroccan sovereignty over this territory, as was confirmed by the International Court of the Hague in its opinion of 16 October 1975 ".

"We insist on our call for respect the international law through the cancellation of this forum scheduled from 17 to 22 March 2016 in the occupied city of Dakhla, as done by the African Union and numerous international organizations," the President of the Platform, Mrs. Aline Pailler says in her letter.

The President of the Platform also considers that "with its insistence on holding this forum in the occupied city of Dakhla, Morocco seeks to impose the status quo of an illegal military occupation of Western Sahara, which makes Crans Montana complicit in the violation of international law and human rights in this non-autonomous territory according to the United Nations.
