Submitted on

Dakhla (refugee camps ), 28 February 2016 (SPS) - President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) Mohamed Abdelaziz called on Saturday, in Dakhla, all the countries of the world to recognize the Sahrawi State and to support its candidacy to the United Nations.

"40 years after its establishment, the Saharawi State meets the conditions of membership in international organizations and bodies (...) we call on all the countries of the world to accelerate the recognition of SADR, support its candidacy to the United Nations," said President Abdelaziz in a speech on the occasion of festivities commemorating the 40th anniversary of SADR’s proclamation.

"This would be a good and wise decision, given that the independent Saharawi State, whose sovereignty will be completed on its national territory, constitutes a moderating factor of balance and stability in the region ...," Abdelaziz, also Secretary General of the Polisario Front, stated.

On the same occasion, he deplored the “shameful contribution of the international players to the encouragement of the Moroccan occupying State to persist in intransigence and obstruction.”

President Abdelaziz said that it would be “a disgrace” for the United Nations and the international community to delay taking “concrete measures and necessary sanctions” against the Moroccan State, to speed up the implementation of the international legitimacy, notably enabling the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to achieve its mission as soon as possible.
