Paris, October 24, 2024 (SPS) - The Solidaires trade union has called for respect for international law following the annulment by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) of two trade agreements between the EU and Morocco that were illegally extended to occupied Western Sahara, stating that it is time to end the plundering of the Sahrawi people's resources.
"The cancellation of the EU's latest trade agreements is insufficient. It is time for French, European, and international authorities to respect and enforce international law," said this French trade union, a member of the International Trade Union Network for Solidarity and Struggle with the General Union of Sahrawi Workers (UGTSARIO).
In a statement, the organization advocated for "the implementation of international resolutions" regarding Western Sahara and also stated that it is time to end the violations of the rights of the Sahrawi people and the plundering of their resources.
Reiterating its support for the Sahrawi people and "all peoples fighting for their emancipation and self-determination," the Solidaires trade union condemned the decision by French President Emmanuel Macron to support the alleged Moroccan "autonomy plan" for Western Sahara.
"We condemn President Macron's inadmissible remarks this summer over economic and political interests with Morocco, which go against international resolutions," the organization stated.
Additionally, the union, which participated in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of UGTSARIO and the 2nd International Trade Union Forum in solidarity with the Sahrawi people held from October 20 to 22, condemned the "genocide in Gaza" and the "massacres" perpetrated in the West Bank and Lebanon by the Zionist entity.
