N'Djaména (Republic of Chad), 15 August 2024 (SPS) – The Union of National Associations for Unity and Solidarity of the Republic of Chad issued a strong statement yesterday, Wednesday, signed by its president, Mr. Ahmed Bachir Ahmed, condemning the Chadian government's opening of a consulate in the occupied city of Dakhla on the same day, describing this action as "excessive and reckless" and as a "poisoned dagger" intended to harm the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
In its statement, the Union praises Chad's historical commitment to national liberation forces in Africa and commends the efforts of the Chadian people to build a modern state free from racism and regionalism. It also criticizes the approach taken by the Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noting that this decision "would not have occurred without repeated French pressures in agreement with the Moroccan government," which illegally occupies parts of the territory of the Sahrawi Republic since 1975.
The statement calls on the Chadian government to immediately reverse the opening of the consulate and to close it without delay, emphasizing the need to adhere to the principles of struggle and national and African solidarity, while reaffirming support for the Sahrawi people's fight for independence and the building of their modern state.
The statement concludes with a call for national unity and solidarity in facing challenges, and expresses wishes for progress for the peoples of Chad and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. (SPS)
