International Women's Day: Sahrawi Committee for Human Rights acknowledges sacrifices of Sahrawi women

Shaheed Al Hafed, 8 March 2024 (SPS) -  The National Sahrawi Committee for Human Rights commended on Friday the contributions and sacrifices of Sahrawi women, praising their prominent role in the liberation struggle against the Moroccan occupation.

In a statement issued on the occasion of International Women's Day, the committee emphasized that Sahrawi women have made exceptional contributions to both the struggle for liberation and nation-building, working tirelessly in various aspects of the struggle and fight.

The committee expressed its condemnation of Moroccan practices that violate international norms and have targeted Sahrawi women throughout the years of occupation, particularly the ongoing acts of torture, assassination, rape, and sham trials against Sahrawis under occupation.

On this occasion, the National Sahrawi Committee for Human Rights extended its greetings and appreciation to Sahrawi women who continue their struggle to achieve the just and legitimate rights of the Sahrawi people, foremost among them the inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

The committee expressed unwavering solidarity with all women around the world, especially Sahrawi women who are still fighting for their rightful freedom, independence, and the release of their unjustly and aggressively detained children due to defending the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.

Furthermore, the committee called upon the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Security Council, the Human Rights Council, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to establish an independent UN mechanism to monitor and report on human rights in Western Sahara.
