NAM Summit: Call for resumption of pioneering role in support of just causes

Kampala (Uganda), 20 January 2024 (SPS) - The need for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to resume its pioneering and historical role in support of just causes in the world was stressed Friday evening at the end of the works of the first day of the 19th NAM Summit, being held in Uganda's capital, Kampala.

The heads of State and officials taking part in the Summit emphasized the need for the NAM to resume its pioneering and historical roles in support of oppressed peoples, solidarity with just causes and commitment to the constituent principles of the second major international organization after the UN.

The works of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit resumed Saturday in Kampala, Uganda.

The second and last day of the summit, being held under the theme "Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence," will be devoted to the resumption of the addresses of the heads of state and government and delegation chiefs in a plenary session.

A session was held in camera for the adoption of the Summit's final documents by the heads of state and government, including the Declaration of Kampala.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is expected to make a speech on the second day of the NAM Summit.

The works of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement Summit began on Friday in the capital city of Uganda, Kampala, with the participation of nearly 50 Heads of State and Government and officials of regional and international bodies.
