Kenyan Minister of Youth and Sports confirms his country’s position in support of the Sahrawi issue

Nairobi (Kenya), December 13, 2023 (SPS) - The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts of the Republic of Kenya, Minister Ababu Namwamba, received his Sahrawi counterpart, Mr. Hasanitu Mohamed Ashbalal, at the headquarters of the Kenyan Ministry of Youth and Sports on the sidelines of the Sixth African Youth Connekt Summit.

According to a statement published by the Kenyan Ministry of Youth and Sports on its official Facebook page, the two ministers discussed various issues of common interest, especially the field of youth.

The statement added that the member of the National Secretariat, Sahrawi Minister of Youth and Sports, Hasanitu Mohamed, expressed, on behalf of the Sahrawi government, his gratitude to the Republic of Kenya for providing him and the Sahrawi youth with an opportunity to be part of the African Youth Platform.

He also praised the summit as a great initiative for the continent to bring together young people to interact, exchange ideas and learn from each other, as well as find possible solutions to the current problems and challenges facing the continent.

“We express our gratitude to you and the government of Kenya for giving us this opportunity to participate in the summit, where we come together as Africans to create innovative solutions to the challenges facing us,” said Hasanitu Mohamed.

The Sahrawi Minister stressed that the Sixth Youth Connekt Summit “is a great initiative that not only strengthens the decision to establish a united Africa but also seeks to benefit from the power of our youth to advance agendas directed towards building a better Africa.”

The Kenyan Minister reiterated to his Sahrawi counterpart his welcome and appreciation for his acceptance of the invitation to participate in the Sixth African Youth Connekt Summit hosted by Nairobi, appreciating the contribution of the Sahrawi delegation in enriching the discussions and sessions of the summit.

Mr. Ababu Namwamba assured the Sahrawi Minister that the Kenyan government was positive about further cooperation between the two countries for the development of youth on the African continent and the entire world, highlighting that sport is considered one of the main areas of cooperation.

“It is important for us as Sahrawis to be part of this borderless renaissance that is supported by this huge demographic group from Africa,” Hasanitu Mohamed assured his Kenyan counterpart.

The Kenyan Minister, Mr. Ababu Namwamba, reviewed the historical and distinguished relationship between the two countries, which is built on common values and principles based on freedom and the right of peoples to self-determination and independence. He also renewed his country’s position in support of the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.

It should be noted that the meeting was attended, in addition to the Minister of Youth and Sports, by Mr. Khalihenna Mohamed, the Central Director of Youth, and Mr. Mohamed Limam Mohamed Ali Sid Al-Bashir, the Sahrawi Ambassador to Kenya.
