Berlin (Germany), June 23, 2021 (SPS) - The member of the German Parliament (Bundestag) and leader of the Christian Democratic Union party, Mr. Frank Heinrich, stated that “The Sahrawi people are solely responsible for deciding the fate of the Western Sahara and neither the United States nor anyone else will be able to make that decision for him ”.
In statements to the portal "Western Sahara 24", Mr. Frank Heinrich expressed his "rejection of the decision of former US President Donald Trump regarding the alleged sovereignty of Morocco over Western Sahara" and recalled that "this position was strongly opposed by the German government, that rejected it in a forceful way like many other governments and international organizations ”.
On the other hand, the German parliamentarian said that “the majority of his party members, or at least all those with whom he has spoken about Western Sahara, have said that the Moroccan occupation is unacceptable and unjust and have regretted the lack of the party's concern about the conflict, underlining that its government has always hidden behind the United Nations in order not to take a more advanced position on the conflict ”.
