Bir Lahlou (liberated territories), 26 March 2016 (SPS) -The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and the Polisario Front have deplored, once again, "the stated willingness of the Moroccan occupier to put an end to the peace process" by dismantling the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), calling on the Security Council to "stop Rabat's escalation against Morocco."
The SADR and the Polisario Front "attentively follow the tension caused by Moroccan authorities and their stated willingness to put an end to the peace process while dismantling the Minurso", the Sahrawi Foreign Affairs Ministry announced in a communiqué.
The Security Council expressed their concern over "the irresponsible and perilous decision" to expel the political and civil component of the Minurso, according to the communiqué.
Thursday, the Security Council expressed "serious concern" over the recent developments in Western Sahara after Morocco's retaliation measures against the Minurso, stressing that its missions are deployed "to ensure the good conduct of the difficult peacekeeping and international security missions."
The Sahrawi FM also stressed that "SADR and the Polisario Front have been informed of the statement made by the Security Council, in which this UN body stressed the need for the Minurso to fulfil its mission as set by the Security Council in its relevant resolutions."
"The SADR and the Polisario Front highlight the need to stop Morocco occupier's escalade against the United Nations and its attempts to modify the Minurso mandate."
The Sahrawi high authorities have made "an urgent call to the Security Council to set a precise date to hold the self-determination referendum," according to the communiqué.
"If such measures are not taken, the Western Sahara conflict will return to square one whereas the results of the efforts made since decades by the international community to speed up Western Sahara decolonization will be thwarted. (SPS)
