Bir-Lahlou (Sahrawi Republic), 25 October 2020 (SPS) - The Sahrawi government condemned Saturday the Moroccan occupation authorities' opening of what they call new “consulates” for three African countries in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
“The government of the Sahrawi Republic condemns in the strongest terms this illegal act and considers it a hostile act aimed at undermining the sovereignty of the SADR and encouraging the Moroccan occupation state to persist in its illegal occupation of parts of the national territory,” said the Ministry of Information in a statement.
The statement considered that this act constitutes a serious violation of the international legal status of Western Sahara, as it is a territory subject to decolonization under the responsibility of the United Nations.
The Sahrawi Government recalled that all African states are bound by both the Charter of the United Nations and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, not to engage in any act or in any form of assistance that may establish an illegal situation resulting from a serious violation of fundamental rules of international law such as those prohibiting any acquisition of territory by force.
The Government of the Sahrawi Republic strongly asserted that the Sahrawi Republic and the Sahrawi people will not stand idly by in the face of the provocative actions of the Moroccan occupying state in collusion with some immoral governments.
It also held the occupying state fully responsible for the consequences that may result from its persistence in these hostilities, which increase the explosive situation on the ground and could ignite the war at any time.
The News Agency of the Moroccan Occupation state reported Friday the news of the opening of the so-called “consulates” in the city of Dakhla in the occupied part of the territory of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) with the support of the Moroccan occupation authorities, it should be recalled.
