New York (United Nations) Sept 29, 2021 (SPS) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra held talks Monday in New York with his Sahrawi counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek on the latest developments of the Sahrawi issue.
“I had consultations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mohamed Salem Ould Salek on the latest development of the Sahrawi issue and the efforts to resume direct negotiations between the two parties so that the Sahrawi people can exercise their right to self-determination and independence, tweeted Lamamra.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level General Debate of the 76th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly that wrapped up Monday in New York.
Lamamra reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering support to the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.
“Algeria reaffirms its unflinching support for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and calls on the United Nations to assume its legal responsibilities towards the Sahrawi people and guarantee their inalienable rights,” stated Lamamra before the UN GE.
"The organization of a free and fair referendum to allow this valiant people to determine its destiny and decide its political future cannot remain forever hostage to the intransigence of an occupying state that has repeatedly failed to meet its international obligations, especially those provided for by the Settlement Plan developed by the United Nations in partnership with the Organization of African Unity and all relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly," said the FM.SPS
