Ould Salek warns against status quo in occupied Sahrawi territories

Algiers, June 13, 2016 (SPS) - Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek on Sunday has warned against the status quo in the occupied Sahrawi territories.
The Sahrawi government and Polisario Front called on the UN Secretariat General and Security Council to assume their responsibility to allow Sahrawi people exercise their right to self-determination and the return of the expelled staff of the UN Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Ould Salek told a press conference at the Sahrawi Embassy in Algiers, warning against the consequences of the continuous postponement of the exercise of Sahrawi people's inalienable right to independence and freedom.
"Heavy responsibility" is lying on the Security Council, he said, adding that the credibility of the UN body is at stake.
"Up to date, we have not noted any sincere intention from the Moroccan occupation government to implement the Security Council's resolutions or to lift the obstacles to the efforts for the decolonization of the last colony in Africa," said Ould Salek.
In a resolution adopted in April, the Security Council expressed support to the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination as well as to the MINURSO and the efforts of the UN secretary general and his personal envoy to find a just and mutually acceptable solution that guarantees Sahrawi people's right to self-determination.
