Chinese company announces end to phosphate exploitation in occupied Western Sahara

Submitted on

Beijing, 16 October 2021 (SPS) - The Chinese phosphate company "Molybdenum" announced in a message to the Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) that it has definitively renounced the acquisition of pillaged phosphate rock from occupied Western Sahara.
In 2020, the Observatory tracked the trucks that transported the phosphate rock from the port of Santos (Brazil) to a closed industrial zone, the WSRW said in a statement published on its website.
According to information gathered by the Observatory from the site in question, other importers involved in the trade of phosphate from Western Sahara had been identified, the first of which is the Brazilian company under the Chinese company "Molybdenum", which refused to give information to the local media after acknowledging the illegality of its activity.
The Chinese company has announced to investors that it will stop any phosphate imports from Western Sahara in the future by its companies in China and Brazil, noted the WSRW statement.
