Rabat, 25 December 2016 (SPS) - The trial of the Sahrawi political prisoners called “Gdeim Izik group,” prosecuted by the Moroccan justice, will start Monday in Rabat, against a background of several calls for their “immediate and unconditional” release as well as for the judgment of the Moroccans who were responsible for “arbitrary detentions.”
The Moroccan Court of Cassation revoked on 27 July 2016 the sentence given by the military court to 24 Sahrawi human rights defenders and activists, arrested as part of the dismantling by the Moroccan military forces of the camp of Gdeim Izik in November 2010.
They will be retried Monday by a “civil court.”
Detained since 2010, Gdeim Izik’s prisoners called, in a communiqué on the eve of their new trial, for their “immediate and unconditional” release.
They also required the judgment of “jailers and those responsible for kidnappings, arbitrary detentions as well as for any form of physical and psychological tortures in gendarmerie and police stations of occupied El-Aaiun, in the local prison Salé 2 and Salé 1 and in the local prison Aarjat.” (SPS)
