Morocco still use force against civilians in occupied territories

Submitted on

Algiers, 16 November 2020 (SPS) - Sahrawi Minister of Occupied Territories and Communities, Mohamed El Ouali Akik said Sunday that the Moroccan occupation forces continue their "aggressive campaigns" using excessive force against Sahrawi civilians in occupied cities to silence the voice of resistance, while imposing a media blockade to conceal the reality of the situation.
In a statement to the APS, Akik said that the situation in the occupied territories is totally different from that prevailing in all the liberated Sahrawi territories, following the Moroccan military aggression that targeted, last Friday, peaceful demonstrators in the region of El-Guerguerat, in blatant violation of the ceasefire signed in 1991 between the two parties to the conflict (Morocco-Polisario Front).
None of the occupied cities has been spared repression by the Moroccan authorities, including Laayoune, Dakhla, Smara and Boujdour, he said, adding that the Moroccan occupation, which strongly apprehended the reaction of citizens, especially youth, in these regions, has resorted to military, security and intelligence reinforcements.
The forces deployed throughout all cities, including in the occupied city of Laayoune, riot means as well as special forces of the army, police and gendarmerie who were ordered to use repressive methods to silence the voice of the Sahrawis. (SPS)
