Sydney, 3January 2021 (SPS) - The Sahrawi people are frustrated by the UN's inaction in the face of Morocco's recurring violations of the ceasefire agreement, said the Polisario Front representative in Australia, Kamal Fadel, deploring the obstruction of the process of resolving the conflict in Western Sahara.
"The decision of Sahrawi President, Brahim Ghali, to cancel the 1991 ceasefire agreement is significant and testifies to the frustration of the Sahrawis in the face of Morocco's recurrent violations of the UN cessation of hostilities agreement and its continued obstruction of the process of resolving the conflict in Western Sahara and the organization of the referendum on self-determination," Kamal Fadel told the cabinet of Australian lawyers, Sydney Criminal Lawyers.
According to the Sahrawi diplomat, the "inaction" of the international organization and its "apparent resignation to the Moroccan authorities" is at the root of this frustration despite the fact that Western Sahara is classified as a non-autonomous territory and still remains a decolonization issue that was the responsibility of the United Nations.
The representative of the Polisario Front, argues in this regard that Morocco wanted "to maintain the status quo in order to further exploit the resources of the territory, oppress the Saharawi population and obstruct the UN process of resolving the conflict in Western Sahara with impunity." (SPS)
