Bir Lahlou (liberated territories), June 26, 2016 (SPS) - President of Republic Khatri Addouh, on Sunday called on the United Nations to set up a plan of talks process which must be "direct, intense, high-level and with a defined timetable" between the two parties to the conflict.
"The UN is called upon more than ever to develop a plan for direct, intense and high level talks process between the Polisario Front and Morocco, in the presence of the main actors of both parties, in accordance with the UN Security Council and the General Assembly to resolve the Western Sahara conflict at the end of 2016," wrote the President of the Republic in a letter to the UN Secretary General.
"The UN Secretary General, particularly his personal envoy, Ambassador Christopher Ross and his Special Representative and Head of MINURSO Kim Bolduc must take more urgent approach to the organization of the self-determination referendum of the Sahrawi people," stressed Addouh.
He “also called for the return of MINURSO to full function, and full respect by both parties to the initial role it currently plays for Western Sahara, far from any interference or restriction of movement according to the principles and practices applicable to UN peacekeeping missions in the world," he added.
Polisario Front Secretary General has condemned the blatant attempt by Morocco to end the UN mission in Western Sahara, despite the commitments it has agreed at the signing of the ceasefire agreement with the Polisario Front under the UN auspices. (SPS)
