El Aaiun (occupied territories), June 30, 2018 (SPS) - The Association for the Monitoring of the Natural Resources and for the Environment Protection in Western Sahara (AMREPNWS) held Friday a meeting with UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Koehler, at MINURSO headquarters in the occupied city of El Aaiun, in the presence of the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Western Sahara, Head of MINURSO, Colin Stewart.
AMREPNWS representatives expressed to the Personal Envoy a deep dissatisfaction with the silence of the international community towards the blatant violation of Article 73 of the Charter of the United Nations by the Moroccan State and the non-fulfillment of its responsibilities towards the territory of Western Sahara as a territory that had not yet completed the decolonization process.
The meeting addressed the systematic looting of the natural resources and the destruction of the Sahrawi environment, the need for the United Nations to bear full responsibility toward the issue of  the natural resources and to work as quickly as possible to create an international mechanism that will enable the people of Western Sahara to exercise their permanent sovereignty over their wealth and natural resources in accordance with their interests and development, in the light of enabling them to their inalienable right to self-determination through a free and fair referendum.
