Shaheed Al-Hafed (Refugee Camps), 19 September 2022 (SPS) - Representatives of foreign delegations in solidarity with the Sahrawi cause reiterated Sunday, in Shaheed al-Hafed, the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination by working on the creation of the appropriate conditions likely to enable them to exercise their will freely.
Members of the progressive left movements in Africa, Europe and Latin America stressed, in statements to APS, the necessity of organizing, as soon as possible, a referendum that enables the Sahrawi people to express their right to self-determination and independence, calling on the United Nations to assume its responsibility and to work on the creation of conditions to reach a peaceful and lasting solution and decolonize this territory in order to enable the Sahrawi people, living under Moroccan occupation since 1975 in violation of the international law, to express freely their will.
In this respect, the representative of Simon Bolivar Institute in Venezuela Guillermo Barreto said that “the Sahrawi experience in resisting colonialism is a model, a source of pride,” before paying tribute to the Sahrawi people’s continuous and many-sided struggle.
He called on the international community to reexamine its positions vis-à-vis the just Sahrawi cause by finding a peaceful and fair solution likely to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their rights and express their will, before reiterating the solidarity of the global progressive movements with the process of completing decolonization in Africa and with all just liberation causes in the world.
For her part, the representative of the African organization “OUALI” in support with the Sahrawi people Saadia Issa Ismail (Sudan) affirmed, on the sidelines of her visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps, that “the just Sahrawi cause and our militancy for the liberation movements are the main reasons for which we support the Sahrawi cause.
“This visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps enabled us to enquire about the difficult conditions the Sahrawi people have been living under the Moroccan colonialism for about half a century, in addition to the plundering of the Sahrawi natural resources and violation of the human rights in the occupied territories,” said Saadia, expressing, in this regard, her wholehearted solidarity with the Sahrawi women.
For her part Zoraida Hernadez Pedraza pointed out that “her participation with the delegation enabled her to discover the truths concealed by the media in the pay of the Moroccan system,” adding that despite the hard conditions of the occupation, the Sahrawi people were able to build institutions that provide training to Sahrawi young people, women and children in various fields.
