Representative of Frente POLISARIO in France to BBC: We favour political solution with Morocco

Submitted on

London, January 25, 2017 (SPS) - Representative of the Frente POLISARIO in France Bashir Abi Bouchraya said in a statement to the BBC Arabic TV channel "Sahrawi leaders favour political solution in the conflict with Morocco but will not stand idly by if this approach fails since the POLISARIO "is under the pressure of Sahrawi citizens."
Abi Bouchraya stressed in an interview broadcasted Tuesday the Frente POLISARIO’s position on the resolution of the conflict with Morocco "has been clear since the beginning," adding "if the POLISARIO is convinced of the UN's incapacity to hold a self-determination referendum, the Sahrawi people will not stand idly by."
"We are under the pressure of the national public opinion in the country, in the refugee camps and in the occupied towns of Western Sahara to take up weapons again against the occupying forces as the Sahrawi people is disappointed about the UN, which has not fulfilled its commitments to holding a self-determination referendum," he said.
He affirmed Western Sahara so far complies with the cease-fire option and has never violated it unlike Morocco in Karkarate, a southern region in Western Sahara, in the last summer, in 2001 and 2002.
The Frente POLISARIO clearly told the UN and the international community "we will no more accept any violation of the cease-fire under any pretext," stressing this message has been understood by the UN, which established a permanent checkpoint between the two Sahrawi and Moroccan armies, separated by 120 metres only.
The UN, western powers and international players know that the Frente POLISARIO acts seriously "and if Morocco does not stop violating the ceasefire, we are ready to take the arms again at any time and impose the national options of the Sahrawi people." SPS
