Helsinki (Finland), 30 November 2022 (SPS) - A Sahrawi delegation composed of Mr. Oubbi Bushraya Al-Bashir, member of the National Secretariat, Ambassador in charge of Europe and the European Union, and Mrs. Mahfouda Rahal, representative of the Polisario Front in Finland, held several bilateral meetings on Monday and Tuesday 28 and 29 November in Finland with official representatives and deputies from the Finnish Parliament, study centers and some party officials from the ruling coalition in Finland.
These meetings made it possible for the Finnish officials to learn about the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue and the dangers surrounding the region as a result of the Kingdom of Morocco's continued disregard for international law and the failure of the United Nations and the European Union to force Rabat to respect its international obligations and allow the decolonization of the territory.
The Sahrawi delegation also activated an open discussion at the headquarters of the Finnish Peace Station with some activists, civil society associations and friends in solidarity with the Sahrawi issue, in addition to members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Helsinki.
The open discussion included a presentation on the conflict, the current impasse and serious challenges, and the responsibility of European countries individually and collectively for the suffering of the Sahrawi people and for postponing the exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
The Sahrawi delegation explained with details the decisions of the European Court, the prospects for the next decision, and what the Finnish people can do to ensure the implementation of the decision and respect for European law, human rights and international legitimacy in Western Sahara.
Finland is considered one of the Nordic countries traditionally known for its positions in support of issues of liberation and the rights of peoples to self-determination and respect for human rights in the world.
