Algiers, 10 October 2021 (SPS) - The former African Union (AU) Commissioner for Peace and Security (PSC), Smaïl Chergui, considered it imperative for the UN Legal Counsel to pronounce on the opening by some states of consulates in occupied Western Sahara cities at the instigation of the Moroccan occupation.
In an interview with the daily "El-Khabar", published on Sunday, Mr. Chergui said that "the immoral delay in allowing the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence remains an affront to the international community ", adding that "the Sahrawis were forced to resume the armed struggle so that the Security Council could realize the deceit and lies of Morocco, which is trying to impose a fait accompli in defiance of international law by continuing its arbitrary practices in violation of the peace agreement it signed and by inciting some states, in return for bribes, to transgress the integrity of the Sahrawi Republic.
We are still waiting the legal opinion of the UN Legal Counsel and exposing the actions of the occupying state, especially since the United Nations remains engaged in Western Sahara until the organization of the referendum, added the diplomat.
