Boujdour, Dec. 3, 2016 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in the protection of peace and security through the exercise of all the necessary pressure on Morocco to comply with legitimacy and respect its international commitments, in a speech read on his behalf by Prime Minister Abdelkader Taleb Omar, at the opening of the 8th Congress of Saharawi workers (UGTSARIO).
"Peace in the region is in danger, the UN Security Council, especially France, must assume its responsibilities in the protection of peace and security by exerting all the necessary pressures and sanctions on the colonizer in order to stop its intransigence and contempt for the UN Secretary-General, his Personal Envoy and his Special Representative by expelling the civil and political component of MINURSO," warned the President of the Republic.
"After more than forty-one years of flagrant violation of international law by Morocco, through its military invasion of Western Sahara, its crimes of genocide against the Saharawi people and its flagrant violations of the legitimate rights of this people", regretted the President of the Republic, calling on the international community "to implement without delay the requirements of international legality in order to accomplish this task".
He stressed that the escalation, provocation and blackmail policies carried out by the Moroccan occupier will have "disastrous" consequences on the region, describing the tension in the region of El Guergarat, in the south of Western Sahara as a Moroccan flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement signed by the two parties of the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco, under the auspices of the UN in 1991.
He also denounced the deliberate intention of the state of Moroccan occupation to bring about a military confrontation that could threaten peace, security and stability in the region, reaffirming the availability of the Saharawi people and their heroic army to face all Moroccan violations and defend their rights.
Concerning the Afro-Arab summit in Malabo, the President of the Republic stressed that he had confirmed in a tangible way that the Moroccan state had no good faith in its attempt to rejoin the African Union, "but it works to sow disagreement and division within the ranks of the Union."
"Africans are aware that Morocco's aim is to legitimize its occupation of parts of a member state of the AU. To this end, Morocco will not hesitate, if necessary, to bury and demolish Africa and its history, principles and achievements and mechanisms of development, integration and unity among the countries and peoples of the continent in order to bring its expansionist ideas to a successful conclusion, "he added.
