Large protests in Spanish capital after "Madrid shameful Declaration"

Submitted on

Madrid, 17 November 2019 (SPS) -Thousands of Sahrawis, living in Spain, and members of solidarity associations with the Sahrawi people gathered Saturday in Madrid to urge the Spanish Government to cancel the shameful Declaration signed by Madrid in 1975, allowing Moroccan invasion of Sahrawi territories.
The protesters recalled, in the heart of Madrid, the heroic resistance of the Sahrawi people against Morocco's illegal occupation of Western Sahara, while denouncing the shameful indifference of the various governments of the Spanish "democracy," "complicit in Moroccan annexationist theories and indifferent to the human rights violations of the defenceless Sahrawi population."
The Sahrawi population, the demonstrators recalled, is a victim of human rights violations, with the complicit silence of the international community, "arbitrary detentions, unsecured trials with heavy prison sentences, torture, murder and deportation, this is the Moroccan regime's response to the peaceful opposition of the Sahrawi people, which requires the holding of the referendum on self-determination agreed between Morocco and the Polisario Front in the 1991 ceasefire."
They also denounced the media blackout on the situation in the occupied Sahrawi territories, on the occasion of this demonstration which is being organised on the eve of the 44th edition of the European Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (Eucoco 2018), scheduled for 22 and 23 November in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain).
