Saharawi Republic partakes in AU summit on situation in Horn of Africa and Libya

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Aug 28, 2011 (SPS) - A delegation of the Saharawi Republic (SADR) led by the Minister Delegate in charge of Africa, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, participated in the works of the AU exceptional summit on the situation in the Horn of Africa, especially Somalia, and Libya taking place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Aug 25-26, 2011.

The Summit adopted a plan to relieve the humanitarian situation for 14 million Africans in Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti and Somalia.

Delegation of the African countries as well as representatives of the international organizations, donator countries and civil society attending the Summit has collected about 500 million dollar to cover the costs of the emergency assistance plan to be launched by the African Union.

On other context, the delegation of the Saharawi Republic took part Friday in a special session of the AU Peace and Security Council which examined the situation in Libya, where the representatives of the Member States listened to the report of the Special Committee of five Heads of States previously assigned to report about the situation in Libya.

The Summit was an opportunity for the SADR delegation to hold meetings with delegations of participating states, including South Africa, Tanzania and Angola. (SPS)
